Cormier & Rea announce additional office at 483 Summer St, Ste 2000, Arlington, MA

REMINDER: April 1, 2014 is the Deadline for Businesses to Certify Tax Status to be entitled to Local Property Tax Benefits

What is the benefit?
The Department of Revenue (DOR) requires most business entities to certify their tax status annually by April 1 in order to compile the annual Corporations Book.  The Corporations Book is used by local assessors to determine which businesses qualify for various property tax exemptions afforded entities that are classified as corporations for federal and state tax purposes. Any corporation that does not complete the online application by April 1 may be omitted from the Corporations Book and may not receive personal property tax exemptions to which it would otherwise be entitled.

What entities are not required to complete the certification process?
Any entity that (1) does not own real or personal property in Massachusetts as of January 1, (2) is a non-profit corporation that may be eligible for local property tax exemptions, or (3) is a sole-proprietor, wouldnot be required to file the Annual Certification of Entity Tax Status. For details see Directive 12-5or FAQs.

Certifying is easy onWebFile for Business

If you have never used WebFile for Business, you will need to register your business online to access the application for certification. Please note that it could take several days to confirm a new registration.  If you have trouble with the registration process, or with accessing your account, please contact Customer Service at 617-887-6367.
